Susan has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana (2007, Go Cards!) and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business (2013, Go Hoosiers!). She spent the first two years after undergrad working in Architecture in Chicago, on projects large and small. Her last project as an Architectural Designer was a 112 story, mixed-use tower in Dubai. With the downturn of the economy in late 2008, Susan made an unplanned career change and moved to a Fortune 500 company, where she worked for 8 years. During that time, she earned her MBA and gained valuable experience in training, overseas operations implementation, and team management, as well as the nuances of both private commercial and government contract business.
After her move to Utah, Susan left her corporate management job in 2017 and was thrilled to join Meridian West as a Proposal Consultant in December of the same year. Her work at Meridian West allows her to get back to her design and construction industry roots, while utilizing the communication and management skills she honed in her previous experience. Her favorite things about the office are her co-workers, clients, learning a new business, the ever-changing pace and tasks, and daily opportunities to creatively work through challenges. (The free coffee, snacks, and laughter help too!) Her professional titles now include: Proposal Consultant, Tab Queen, InDesign Guru, and Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Wasatch.
Susan thrives on continuously learning from others, growing personally and professionally, sharing her own knowledge with others, and creating a sense of community in the workplace. She loves the accomplishment of completing projects, designing practical and beautiful layouts, and creative problem-solving. She adds value to her work through her excellent research skills, her eye for beauty, and her ability to focus on the details, while still seeing the big picture.
Although Susan came to Meridian West from Indiana, and will always be a Hoosier at heart, the day she arrived in Utah, she knew this is her ‘place’. The unique and breathtaking locations she sees every day never seem to get old and there are always new ones to explore! The mountains also seem to provide a ton of creative inspiration for her hobbies! Susan has a particular passion for the antique art of letterpress printing. So, when she’s not writing proposal documents, she is designing or printing greeting cards on one of her two Chandler & Price Letterpresses. The oldest was made in 1906. Susan also actively participates in the thriving creative community of makers and markets that the Wasatch front has to offer, including a lettering club and a group of fine artists who share and collaborate. Susan also takes full advantage of the stunning vistas and trails of Utah by practicing her photography, sketching, ATVing, and hiking, with her husband, Steve, and sometimes their huskita, Abassylar.
